Muni Ki Reti is a town and a municipal council in Tehri Garhwal district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It lies close to the pilgrimage town of Rishikesh and is known for its ashrams, including the Divine Life Society of Sivananda Saraswati. Muni Ki Reti is a small town near the city of Rishikesh.The literal meaning of Muni Ki Reti is 'Sand of Sagas'. The area is full of Hindu temples. Muni Ki Reti is traditionally considered the gateway for the Char Dham pilgrimage — Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. It is believed to be the place where the famous Indian king Bharata performed penance. Muni Ki Reti is the place where Rishi Muni meditates near the banks of the river Ganges.Muni Ki Reti is home to many temples, ashrams, meditation, and Ayurveda. Yoga and meditation practitioners are attracted to ashrams in the form of sages.In February 1968 The Beatles visited the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ashram.John Lennon recorded 'The Happy Hrishikesh Song' here.The Beatles composed nearly 48 songs during their time at the Maharishi's ashram, many of which appear on the White Album.Several other artists, including Mike Love of The Beach Boys, Donovan and Gyp Mills, visited the site to contemplate and meditate.
